INFANT MENTAL HEALTH

What is Infant Mental Health?

Infant mental health is the social, emotional, and cognitive well-being of a baby under the age of three, in a context of a caregiving relationship.

Research from the field of Early Childhood Development has shown that an infant’s earliest experiences greatly shape the way they will learn and the way they will feel about themselves and others as they grow up.

What kind of circumstances may be cause for concern? Infant Mental Health services might be helpful if you have a baby or toddler who has:

· Experienced extended separations, foster care, multiple caregivers, or been exposed to violence.

It’s about the baby but it is also about you, as the caregiver.
